Harin won't be arrested until 01st September; AGs Dept tells SC

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Attorney General's Department told the Supreme Court on Wednesday (14) that MP Harin Fernando will not be arrested until the 01st of September with respect to the incidents surrounding the 2019 April 21st Attacks.

The assurance was given by Deputy Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris when a Fundamental Rights application filed by the MP was called up at the Supreme Court.

Fernando had filed an FR application seeking an order to prevent his arrest with respect to the incidents surrounding the 2019 April 21st Attacks.

The application was called up in the presence of Justices Priyantha Jayawardena, Kumuduni Wickremesinghe, and Mahida Samayawardena.

The Deputy Solicitor General told the Supreme Court that the Criminal Investigations Department will conduct further investigations after obtaining a statement from MP Fernando.

The application will be called up at the Supreme Court again on the 01st of September 2021.
