Sri Lanka Expedites Passport Issuance, Eyes E-Passport Launch

COLOMBO (News 1st): Minister of Public Security, Ananda Wijepala says that approximately 50,000 passports applied for from overseas have now been issued.

Minister Wijepala added that a total of 50,000 passport applications from individuals residing overseas and 125,000 applications from those residing in Sri Lanka, have been received.

The minister further highlighted that currently, around 4,000 passports are being issued daily through the 24-hour service. 

Additionally, there is a possibility that the night service for passport issuance could be discontinued within the coming month.

Minister Wijepala confirmed that the raw materials required for passport printing required until December this year, have already been ordered.

Minister Wijepala also added that the process of issuing e-passports will commence in December.
