Daughter of COVID-19 apparel worker also tests positive for coronavirus

Colombo (News 1st); The 16 year old daughter of the apparel worker from Divulapitiya, has also tested positive for COVID-19, said Army Commander Lt. General Shavendra Silva on Sunday (05) evening.

Sunday's (05) COVID-19 patient detected from Divulapitiya is the first community COVID-19 case detected after 02 months, said Chief Epidemiologist of the Epidemiology Unit, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera.

The family and relatives as well as all those who were in close association with the patient were detected and moved to immediate quarantine after conducting PCR tests, said Dr. Samaraweera.

The Public Health Inspectors Association said 750 close associates of the apparel worker in Divulapitiya have been subject to self-quarantine.

The PHI Association Chief Upul Rohana speaking to News 1st said around 600 apparel workers were among those moved to quarantine and the PHIs are engaged in contact tracing as well.

Citing the health sector is battling a virus, Chief Epidemiologist of the Epidemiology Unit, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera said it is paramount for the general public to refrain from attending public gatherings, maintain social distancing and follow proper health practices.

"If there are multiple people showing symptoms of a cold, cough, fever the local residents are urged to immediately contact the relevant Public Health Inspector or the Medical Officer for Health," said Dr. Samaraweera
