Colombo (News 1st) - The Sri Lankan government has proposed the establishment of the Gambling Regularization Authority, an independent entity tasked with overseeing the gambling sports industry.
This new authority will have a broad mandate, covering offshore gambling activities on ships and in Colombo Port City, as well as online gambling sports.
The proposal follows the approval of the Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on February 24, 2025, to draft a bill for this purpose.
The draft bill has received clearance from the Attorney General, paving the way for its publication in the government gazette notification. Subsequently, the bill will be submitted to Parliament for concurrence.
The President, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, presented the proposal.
