Ex-Councilor in Custody After Fatal Shooting

COLOMBO (News 1st); A former local councilor has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in the Katiyana area, of Katana. 

The suspect, who previously served as a councilor for the Katana Pradeshiya Sabha under the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), was taken into custody following the incident.

The 42-year-old suspect, who is also a candidate in the upcoming local government elections, allegedly shot the victim yesterday (22) evening. The shooting occurred when the victim attempted to attack the former councilor with a sharp weapon.

The suspect is currently receiving medical treatment under police protection.
