COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) will distribute fuel and continue their operations today, even though it is not a regular working day, to ensure a steady supply.
CPC has further confirmed that Sri Lanka's fuel stations have ample supply.
Chairman of CPC, D. A. Rajakaruna said that usual ordering procedures are underway today as well.
The Chairman further clarified that, following consistent fuel consumption over the past two days, the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) is fully prepared to fulfil standard order volumes today.
He added that as of yesterday evening, the CPC had processed over 1,000 orders, and distribution for these is proceeding as scheduled.
The Chairman assured the public that daily order processing and distribution are operating seamlessly, and there is no risk of fuel shortages.
CPC urges the general public to avoid unnecessary panic as it could disrupt the fuel supply.
False rumours of a potential strike by fuel station owners triggered panic buying, leading to long queues at petrol stations last Friday.
The issue stemmed from the abolition of the 3% discount previously offered to fuel distributors, which was replaced with a new payment formula starting yesterday.
The National Audit Office and the courts had deemed the additional 3% received by distributors illegal, leading to its removal and the introduction of a revised system.
However, according News1st Correspondents, there were no fuel queues observed anywhere in the island today and fuel were available at filling stations island wide, as usual.
