Paper Marking for Grade 5 Scholarship Examination to Begin Today (08)

COLOMBO (News 1st): Paper marking for the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination will commence today.

This process will be carried out until the 12th of January.

Commissioner General of Examinations Amith Jayasundara stated that the results will be issued within 40 days.

While the 2024 Grade 5 Scholarship examination sparked much controversy over an alleged leak of 3 questions in the 1st part of the paper, it was ultimately decided to award free marks to all candidates for those questions.

It was revealed that three questions from the first part of the paper had been leaked prior to the examination which was held on the 15th of September 2024. 

The Supreme Court's ruling on the case was announced on the 31st of December.

Accordingly, the Supreme Court directed the Commissioner General of Examinations to implement one of three recommendations: awarding free marks for the three leaked questions, annulling those three questions entirely, or conducting a re-examination. 

The Supreme Court instructed that the most suitable recommendation be immediately implemented.

The Department of Examinations announced on the 1st of January that after a thorough review of the possible positive and negative impacts of each recommendation, the most fair and appropriate solution is to award free marks to all candidates for the three leaked questions.
