COLOMBO (News 1st) - The second phase of a major research project investigating the urbanization of Polonnaruwa has begun.
This collaborative effort brings together University of Kelaniya and Australia's La Trobe University.
Professor Prishantha Gunawardena, from the Archaeological Department of University of Kelaniya said that the second phase will involve archaeological excavations at several key locations within Polonnaruwa city.
He said that geophysical equipment has been used to survey the subsurface of the city, aiding researchers in pinpointing excavation sites.
Professor Gunawardena further highlighted the ongoing research being conducted in the old tourist areas of Polonnaruwa city.
