COLOMBO (News 1st); Ex-Minister Rishad Bathiudeen's brother-in-law, Mohamed Ziyabdeen was released on a personal bail of Rs. 500,000/- by Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika Sri Ragala on Monday (16).

Cases were filed against the suspect for raping an underage domestic aide at the residence of the Ex-Minister in 2016, on two separate occasions.

The Chief Magistrate warned that if the suspect is reported to have obstructed the investigations and influenced the witnesses from the prosecution, bail will be revoked and the suspect will be remanded until the conclusion of the trial.

Further, the suspect was ordered to surrender his passport to the court and was barred from travelling overseas.

The bail order was made after the counsel appearing for the suspect submitted that the detectives have not been able to produce any report to prove the rape claim which is said to have taken place several years ago.
