COLOMBO (News1st): The Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine will be brought under consideration for approval to be used in Sri Lanka, a medical expert has said. "Yesterday, we obtained details of the Pfizer vaccine," Dr Rajeeva De Silva, a member of the national committee to approve vaccines said. Experts also say that it will require three weeks to build full immunity upon receiving the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine. "However, it is has been confirmed that the first dose offers some sort of protection against the virus," Dr. Padma Gunarathna, the chairperson of the Sri Lanka Medical Association said. She pointed out that the severity of the infection would be low if a person who has received the first dose is infected by the virus.
