Suspect Shot While Fleeing Police In Kiribathgoda

COLOMBO (News 1st); A suspect was injured and hospitalized following a police shooting during an arrest attempt in Kiribathgoda. 

According to Senior Police Superintendent Buddhika Manathunga, the incident occurred last night at the Gaala Junction area in Kiribathgoda.

The suspect attempted to flee when approached by a police team. In response, the police fired shots at the ground, but a ricochet struck the suspect in the back. 

He is currently receiving treatment at Ragama Hospital.

The police spokesperson stated that the suspect was in possession of a toy gun and is believed to have been planning a criminal act.
