Colombo (News 1st); Ambulances in operation outside of the Western Province will be used to transport COVID-19 patients from the Colombo and Gampaha districts to hospitals for treatment.

Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena speaking to News 1st said though some people are detected as COVID-19 infected, it takes several days to hospitalize them due to the unavailability of ambulances. Therefore, there is a considerable delay in transporting COVID-19 patients to the hospital from their residences and to return those who recovered. Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena said in order to avoid the delay, it was decided to call-in ambulances at the regional level from other provinces.
