Colombo (News 1st); 403 motor accidents were reported in Sri Lanka in one week from 31st January to 06th of February 2021, said Sri Lanka Police.
45 people died in these motor accidents, said Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana adding 266 people were injured with 94 suffering critical injuries. However, the actual figures of motor accidents, fatalities, and injuries could be higher than the numbers reported to Sri Lanka Police, he said. Based on the statistics approximately 06 people die as a result of motor accidents in the country and over 30 are regularly injured, he added. Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said a special operation is in place in order to detect indisciplined drivers and institute necessary legal action against them. According to Sri Lanka Police, a majority of the victims of motor traffic accidents are pedestrians, motorcyclists, pillion riders, and three-wheeler drivers & passengers.
