Colombo (News 1st): The US has not imposed any additional restrictions on security assistance or military engagement in Sri Lanka, the Embassy of the United States of America in Colombo said expressing their stance on the public designation of the Sri Lankan Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva.
“The announcement of the designation does not place additional restrictions on security assistance or military engagement in Sri Lanka, nor does it represent a shift in policy or desire to limit engagement more broadly with the government and people of Sri Lanka,” The US Embassy told News 1st.
The (State) Department remains committed to helping Sri Lanka reshape its security forces to tackle current and emerging threats, leaving the country better poised to contribute to regional and global security.” It said.
The Sri Lankan Ministry of Foreign Relations earlier noted that the action taken by the United States ‘unnecessarily complicates the US-Sri Lanka relationship’.
