COLOMBO (News 1st) - Gammadda teams which toured several areas in the island, pointed out that the plight of the people has become a mere tool for politicians as a trump card in order to secure votes during election campaigns. The residents of Kolombawa in Kalawewa, Ihalapuliyankulama and Meewelawa are both enraged and helpless at the same time. These villagers don't have access to clean drinking water, they are caught in between the human-elephant conflict and to add to the pile of burdens their lands have grown barren due to the poor management of irrigational water. These villagers who were once fooled by these politicians, vow never to be beguiled by them again. The villagers in Peruwitiya, Panangala, Kurudugolla that is situated in the vicinity of tourist destination Ella, state that they are reduced to the refugee status. The road running from Bandarawela to Ettampitiya is in a dilapidated condition and has caused serious inconveniences for those who depend on this road for their day to day activities.
