Colombo (News 1st) - Several protests against the current conduct of the United National Party were staged in different parts of the Island.
Galewela
A protest was staged in the Galewala town in opposition of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and Ranil Wickremesinghe.
Our correspondent said that the protesters who began the protest near the Galewala Pradeshiya Saba marched towards Galewala town.
Former Councilor of the Central Provincial Council Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon and several other members from the Pradeshiya Sabha were present.
Hambantota
Another protest was staged in the Hambantota town by Political and civil activists against the actions of the speaker and urging that elections be held immediately.
This was held under the patronage of the Mayor of Hambantota, Eraj Fernando.
A memorandum containing signatures of party members addressed to President Maithripala Sirisena urging to hold an election immediately was also compiled.
Anuradhapura
Meanwhile, a group of SLPP supporters staged a protest opposite Anuradhapura depot today.
This was staged demanding the speaker to immediately resign from his position.
Hataraliyada
Another protest was staged in Hataraliyada under the auspices of Minister Keheliya Rambukwella this evening.
This protest march was held under the theme "Call for a general election respecting the peoples' mandate "
Katugasthota
Meanwhile, the SLPP members of the Harispattu Pradeshiya Sabha also staged a protest by marching towards the centre of the Katugastota town.
This was held under the patronage of MP Dilum Amunugama.
Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia
The SLPP held a protest opposite the Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council today opposing the speaker and the UNP.
