Minister Vows Swift Action to Curb Pirate Threats to Deep-Sea Fishermen

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Ramalingam Chandrasekar said that practical and swift solutions will be provided to control pirate activities, which pose a serious threat to fishermen engaged in deep-sea fishing.

He made these remarks while attending a meeting of the Ampara District Fisheries Coordinating Committee.

Representatives of fisheries associations had called on the Minister to establish an immediate and permanent mechanism to completely curb pirate activities. 

The Minister also said that the Oluvil Port will be developed with the participation of both local and foreign investors.

He highlighted the growing interest among investors in making investments through the use of the port.
