COLOMBO (News 1st): Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya says international support has been secured to extradite criminals wanted in Sri Lanka with Red Notices issued against them.

Red Notices have been issued against 73 suspects according to the IGP, adding that Red Notices may also be issued against another 100 more suspects.

The IGP also highlighted the international recognition received for the government's ongoing anti-narcotics operations.

Responding to a question on whether the operations had resulted in external pressure or threats, he said he had not received any such threats so far.

However, he said those who had supported or invested in the illegal drug trade had been affected by the ongoing crackdown.

The IGP also dismissed concerns over political statements made against him, saying such matters would not intimidate the police.

He said police officers remain prepared to face any challenge in the line of duty.
