Fisheries Sector Faces Over Rs. 7.6 Billion in Losses Following Cyclone Ditwah

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources says that the fisheries sector has incurred damages exceeding Rs. 7,649 million due to the recent disaster situation.

The Ministry announced that the aquaculture sector suffered a loss of Rs. 5,850 million. 

The fish, shrimp, and sea cucumber industries were the most severely affected.

Furthermore, the Ministry estimated the losses in the marine fisheries sector at Rs. 1,799 million.

Investigations have revealed that over 300 fishing vessels in the marine sector were completely destroyed, while more than 400 vessels sustained partial damage.
