Wildlife Raid Ends in Gunfire—Suspect Hospitalized

COLOMBO (News 1st); A man has been injured in a shooting incident while allegedly engaging in illegal fishing inside the Lahugala wildlife reserve.

Police stated that the firearm discharged accidentally during a search operation conducted by wildlife officers.

According to reports, three individuals were involved in illegal fishing when officers attempted to apprehend them, leading to a scuffle during which the weapon was fired.

The injured man is currently receiving treatment at the Pottuvil Base Hospital, while the firearm has been taken into custody by Pottuvil Police for further investigation.
