Colombo (News 1st): The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) is requesting all rooftop solar owners across the country to voluntarily switch off their solar systems during daytime hours (until 3:00 PM each day) from April 13through April 21.
Due to the extended holiday period and sunny weather, national electricity demand has plummeted to historic lows, while very high Variable Renewable Energy (VRE) contribution is placing an extraordinary stress on the national grid, said the CEB on Saturday (12).
As a result, the grid inertia has critically reduced, leaving it highly vulnerable to sudden disruptions, warned the CEB adding that even a minor fluctuation could trigger partial outages or a nationwide blackout.
