COLOMBO (News 1st): The Committee to Review the Non-Implementation of Parliamentary Committee Recommendations has decided to grant a one-month grace period for responsible institutions to implement outstanding recommendations made by various parliamentary committees.
The decision was reached during a meeting held in Parliament under the chairmanship of Minister Attorney Harshana Nanayakkara.
The committee also discussed prioritizing the most critical unimplemented recommendations for review.
It was revealed that over 80 recommendations made by the Committee on Public Petitions during the fifth session of the ninth Parliament remain unimplemented.
The same one-month grace period will apply to pending recommendations issued by the Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE), the Committee on Public Accounts (COPA), and the Committee on Public Finance.
Letters will be sent to the relevant ministry secretaries, urging the immediate implementation of these recommendations.
Institutions that are unable to comply within the set timeframe must provide written explanations to the committee.
