Special Security Provided to Deshabandu Tennakoon at Dumbara Prison

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Department of Prisons says special security arrangements have been implemented for suspended Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon, who is currently held in remand custody at Dumbara Prison in Pallekele.

Authorities confirmed that the enhanced security measures were taken in compliance with court orders.

Tennakoon was remanded until the 3rd of April after being produced before the Matara Magistrate’s Court on the 20th March.

The Matara Magistrate’s Court had earlier issued arrest warrants on February 28th for eight individuals, including Tennakoon, in connection with the fatal shooting of a Colombo Crime Division officer near a hotel in Weligama, Matara, on December 31, 2023.
