COLOMBO (News 1st); The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has announced that legal action has been taken against 1,555 rice traders for various violations during the raids conducted so far this year.
Among those penalized, 462 traders were found selling rice at inflated prices, 1,004 traders failed to display prices, and 89 traders were caught hoarding rice and refusing to sell it.
The government has imposed maximum retail prices for rice to regulate the market.
According to these regulations, the maximum retail price for a kilogram of Kekulu rice is Rs. 220.00, Nadu rice is Rs. 230.00, Samba rice is Rs. 240.00, and Keeri Samba rice is Rs. 260.00
The CAA has emphasized that raids will continue to identify and penalize traders who sell rice at higher prices.
