COLOMBO (News 1st): The Fort Magistrate's Court has directed directors of both government and private hospitals to provide information regarding the treatments received by 22 Members of Parliament (MPs) in connection with the alleged misuse of the Presidential Fund.

This order was issued by Colombo Magistrate Nilupli Lankapura following a motion filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The CID is investigating claims that these MPs received over 100 million rupees from the Presidential Fund between 2008 and 2014.

The court has also instructed the Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to assist the CID in obtaining information from foreign hospitals where the MPs may have received treatment.

Former President Maithripala Sirisena has already provided statements to the CID on two occasions regarding this investigation.
