COLOMBO (News 1st); The Western Provincial Council says that local government institutions in the Western Province have over Rs. 10.5 Billion in outstanding property tax revenue to be collected.
The highest amount of outstanding tax revenue is from the Colombo District, exceeding Rs. 9.3 Billion.
In the Gampaha District, approximately Rs. 1 Billion in tax revenue remains unpaid.
The Western Provincial Council also reports that local government institutions in the Kalutara District have around Rs. 180 million in outstanding tax revenue.
Meanwhile, the Department of Local Government for the Western Province says that several programs are currently being implemented to recover these outstanding revenues.
Accordingly, the department revealed that measures include providing incentives to employees involved in recovery efforts, conducting mobile services, and continuously confiscating properties of individuals who fail to pay property taxes and shop rentals.
