COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala, in a special address to Parliament today said that members of the three-armed forces assigned to the security detail of former presidents will be removed from next week.
The Minister added that the government will continue to work according to the mandate of the people.
He said that they remain steadfast in their decisions, guided by dedication and unwavering commitment, and will not alter their course under any threats.
The Minister confirmed that only police officers will be assigned to the security detail of former presidents from next week.
He also said that a threat assessment will be conducted every six months, and security measures will be adjusted as per the assessment.
