Firearms and Ammunition Found on Former Councillor's Property: Arrest Made

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Provincial Councillor Sanjay Sirivardhana was arrested following the discovery of a cache of firearms and ammunition buried on his property.

The police reported finding a T-56 assault rifle, two magazines, 130 rounds of ammunition, a 12-bore shotgun, and six rounds of shotgun ammunition on Sirivardhana's 25-acre coconut estate in Attanagalla. 

The search operation was conducted based on a tip-off received by the authorities.

Further investigations revealed that an additional hidden firearms, including four more T-56 rifles and several live hand grenades are likely to be buried on the property, and investigations are underway.

The police Special Task Force assisted in the ongoing operations to uncover all concealed weapons on the property.
