COLOMBO (News 1st): The Sri Lanka State Trading (General) Corporation says that the government has delayed the importation of rice stocks that were ordered.
This has been done to prioritize the rice stocks ordered by private importers.
According to the Chairman of the Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation, Ravindra Fernando, preparations are in place to import 5,200 metric tons of rice to the country.
He says that two additional rice tenders have also been opened.
It is expected that a total of 26,000 metric tons will be imported to Sri Lanka.
The Chairman of the Sri Lanka State Trading Corporation also announced that another tender for the importation of 20,800 metric tons of rice will be called tomorrow.
He added that steps will be taken to begin the importation of the rice stocks ordered, after the 20th of December.
