100 Complaints Filed Against Dr. Maheshi Wijeratne – Bribery Commission

COLOMBO (News 1st): The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption says it has received complaints from approximately 100 individuals regarding surgical procedures performed by specialist neurosurgeon Dr. Maheshi Wijeratne.

The Commission has urged the public to come forward with any relevant information by calling the hotline 1954 or emailing [email protected].

Dr. Maheshi Wijeratne, attached to the Sri Jayewardenepura General Hospital, is currently under investigation for allegedly causing financial losses to patients by arranging for the required surgical equipment to be obtained from external institutions needed for neurosurgical procedures.

Statements have been recorded from several individuals affected by these procedures, and the Commission continues to appeal to the public for any further information regarding any irregularities.

Following the progress of the investigation, Dr. Maheshi Wijeratne and two others were arrested by the Bribery Commission on the 17th June.

The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court recently ordered that Dr. Maheshi Wijeratne be further remanded until the 15th of next month.
