Annual ‘Poppy Day’ Ceremony held in Colombo, President Graces Occasion

COLOMBO (News 1st): The annual ‘Poppy Day’ ceremony, organized by the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association (SLESA) and its Armed Forces Commemorative Poppy Committee, was held today under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake with the participation of distinguished guests at the War Memorial in Vihara Maha Devi Park, Colombo.

Organized annually by the The Ex-Servicemen’s Association of Sri Lanka (SLESA), the event honors and commemorate the fallen war heroes and disabled veterans who have sacrificed their lives for the safety and security of their motherland, since the end of the First World War up until the present day.

Following religious observances, a two-minute silence was observed in memory of the fallen heroes. Thereafter president Anura Kumara Dissanayake, along with distinguished guests and representatives of SLESA, paid floral tributes to the memorial.
