The academic and non-academic staff of the University of Ruhuna launched a strike action yesterday, demanding the removal of Professor Sujeewa Amarasena from his position as Vice-Chancellor.
A protest was staged by university students in the university premises yesterday afternoon, in support of this demand.
A discussion in this regard was held last evening, presided over by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.
Co-Chairman of the Joint Committee of University Trade Unions, Dhammika S. Priyantha says that at the meeting, the Prime Minister promised that a solution to this issue will be provided promptly.
