Final Rites of Former Minister Kumara Welgama To Be Observed Tomorrow

COLOMBO (News 1st): The mortal remains of former minister Kumara Welgama will be placed at his residence in Horawala, Matugama from 8.30 am onwards today, for the general public to pay their final respects.


Final rites will be observed at 4.00 pm tomorrow, at the Matugama Public Ground premises.


Former Minister Kumara Welgama passed away yesterday, at the age of 74, while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Colombo.


Born on April 5th, 1950, he was a member of a traditional business family. He began his political career with the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and was elected to Parliament at the general elections in 1994, from the United People's Freedom Alliance.


As a seasoned politician, he served as the State Minister of Power and Energy and held numerous ministerial portfolios, including those in industrial development and transport.
