Colombo (News 1st); The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption today summoned former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to clarify the details of a statement he made regarding the investigation into Chamara Sampath Dassanayake, the former Chief Minister of Uva Province.

This is the second occasion on which the former President has been summoned.

In response to the summons, Wickremesinghe stated that he is not involved in matters concerning Minister Chamara Sampath and that his lawyer is currently overseas. He added that once his lawyer returns, a date will be set to proceed with providing clarification before the commission.

The commission confirmed this afternoon that it had received a letter from Wickremesinghe’s lawyer, requesting that the former President be allowed to appear before the body on April 28.

Accordingly, the commission has instructed Wickremesinghe to be present at 9:30 AM on that date. It further emphasized in its letter that failure to appear without a valid reason will result in action under Section 126 of the law.
