COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan Ministry of Health has reached a decision to purchase medicines directly from India and Bangladesh.
Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Health, Dr. Saman Ratnayake said Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella held discussions with the Health Ministers of the two countries.
There is a shortage of 277 types of medicinal drugs in the medicine supply sector at present.
These medicines are to be purchased under the government to government system, in order to resolve the shortage promptly.
The Additional Health Secretary said the new system will be followed to reduce the unnecessary delays in calling for tenders.
