COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Railways has decided to introduce a dedicated train to transport vegetables from January 2023, with trial runs already taking place.
Transporting of vegetables from upcountry areas to Colombo Fort by train commenced on Tuesday (27) after 23 years.
According to a proposal submitted by President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the interim budget presented to the Parliament recently, five special compartments have been prepared to transport vegetables by train.
The train will transport vegetables and fruits to the supermarkets and the Manning Market in Colombo.
