COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan authorities have urged pilgrims to refrain from traveling to Kandy for the Siri Dalada Wandanawa or the Sacred Veneration of the Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, until further notice.
"The number of pilgrims arriving in the city is increasing day by day. Although we have not yet faced issues related to food and water, we have had to make several decisions regarding health and sanitation concerns," said Professor Sarath Abeykoon, the Governor of the Central Province.
He noted that Sri Lanka Police and the military are providing extensive services to manage the crowd.
"We have increased the number of military batallions in the past few days. Consequently, we have decided to limit the arrival of the public to Kandy city in the coming days," he added.
