Warakapola Tragedy: woman's body recovered; search continues for son

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The body of a 48 year old woman, trapped after a mound of earth collapsed onto a house in Tumbaliyadda, Mainnoluwa in Warakapola, was recovered on Saturday (15).

The Police Special Task Force and Sri Lanka Army on Friday (14) launched a search operation to locate three people who were trapped under the mound of earth.

The search operation to locate her 24 year old son is still underway.

Security forces and local residents managed to locate the father and admit him to the hospital.

The Disaster Management Centre of the Kegalle District said the mound had collapsed onto the house following heavy showers on Friday afternoon.
