President Vows No Mercy for Corruption, Organized Crime and Drug Trafficking

COLOMBO (News 1st) - President Anura Kumara Dissanayake emphasizes that no mercy will be shown to anyone who has engaged in fraud or corruption.

He stressed that the public granted a mandate to the current government specifically to enforce the law against corrupt people. 

He made these remarks while addressing a farmers' rally in the Polonnaruwa District.

The Polonnaruwa District Farmers’ Rally which is part of the “අපේ ආණ්ඩුවට වසර දෙකයි – රටට සුබයි” loosely translated to “Two Years of Our Government — A prosperous Country” series of rallies organized by the National People’s Power, was held this evening.

It took place at the Deepa Uyana in Polonnaruwa.

The President said the government was elected to protect the people and hold those responsible for corruption, crime and organized criminal activity accountable. 

He said there would be no compromise or leniency when dealing with organized crime and the drug trade linked to criminal networks.

He added the government was committed to dismantling organized crime groups and noted that around 70 suspects had already been brought back to Sri Lanka from overseas.

On the Easter Sunday attacks and other serious crimes, the President said those responsible must face justice following proper investigations and court proceedings. 

He stressed that the government would not allow sympathy or political pressure to prevent perpetrators from being held accountable.

President Dissanayake also rejected allegations that the government’s investigations were driven by political revenge. 

He said cases had to be investigated properly, evidence established and charges proven in court before suspects could be punished.

He said investigations had taken considerable time over the past two years but that many had now been completed, with authorities moving into the stage of arresting suspects.

The President also dismissed appeals for sympathy on behalf of individuals accused of corruption, saying the law must apply equally to everyone regardless of their family connections or social standing.

He said the government’s objective was not revenge but to establish a clear message that those who misuse public funds will ultimately face legal consequences.

President Dissanayake said bringing corrupt individuals to justice was an essential part of rebuilding the country, alongside strengthening the rule of law, improving the economy and creating better opportunities for future generations.

He added that attempts to destabilize the government would not succeed as long as the people continued to support it.
