COLOMBO (News 1st); Chinese Ambassador Qi Zhenhong had a free & open dialogue with a group of local journalists on a wide range of topics including China's aid to Sri Lanka, financial & economic cooperation to overcome current crisis, people-to-people exchanges etc.
The Ambassador said China is engaged all-out efforts in support for local governments, social groups, companies, schools etc., to support Sri Lanka overcome current difficulties.
Western developed countries, especially those who colonized Sri Lanka in history, should also come and help, tweeted the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka.
According to the Chinese Embassy in the past two years, China has extended Sri Lanka:
1. 26 million doses of vaccine
2. numerous PPEs & medical equipment
3. 2.8 billion USD of financial support
4. 11,000 jobs for Sri Lankans in Chinese projects etc.
It further noted that the Financial departments and institutes of both China and Sri Lanka are still working closely on the new financial requests (loans & buyer's credit) raised by Sri Lanka, in the backdrop of Sri Lanka's temporary suspension of debt payment and the talks of debt restructuring with IMF.
It went on to note that the economic crisis and debt burden of Sri Lanka has its historical reason, and could not be solved overnight.
"China is not the only lender either the biggest lender of Sri Lanka. Most of Chinese loans are concessional and going to infrastructure and eco-social development," the series of tweets added.
