COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has decided to supply 1500 Metric Tonnes of Diesel daily to the Ceylon Electricity Board to ensure the uninterrupted supply of electricity in the country.
The CEB is facing difficulties due to the emergency maintenance activities at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant.
Accordingly, as a result of this situation, the National Grid is losing 300 MW of power generated at the Norochcholai Power Plant.
Thereby, the CEB has requested the CPC to provide fuel for the generation of power, Sumith Wijesinghe, the Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation told News 1st on Friday (14).
"Based on the discussions between the Ministers of Power and Energy, the CPC has decided to provide 1500 Metric Tonnes of Diesel to the CEB daily, in order to avoid power cuts" Sumith Wijesinghe added.
Another discussion on future proceedings will be held next Tuesday, he noted.
