COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Consumer Affairs Authority said that 15 samples from various areas were obtained in order to test the quality of gas distributed in the country.
At the same time, more incidents of LP Gas cylinder exploding were reported.
Kalmunai : An LP Gas Cylinder exploded in the east of the country on Sunday (28) morning causing serious damage to the kitchen of a residence.
Kegalle : A similar incident was reported at a residence at Rockhill, Kegalle on Sunday (28) Monday.
"I was boiling water to prepare tea. Then I went to have a wash. It was then that I heard a loud explosion. It sounded like a bomb. When I came to investigate, I found the cooker destroyed," said the home owner.
At the same time, a group pleaded from the gods to protect them from exploding gas cylinders, in Kegalle.
Opposition Activist Kanishka Lanerolle alleged the standards of the gas cylinders have been lowered and in six months, the government has failed to impose a fixed standard for gas in Sri Lanka.
State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna said the samples that were obtained will be tested by Sri Lanka Standards Institute and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
However, SLPP MP Madura Vithanage blamed the public for not using gas properly.
