COLOMBO (News 1st); SSP Shani Abeysekara, Director of the Central Crime Investigation Bureau, has been appointed to the committee tasked with reviewing the report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry on the Easter Sunday terror attacks.
The committee operates under the chairmanship of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Asanka Karawita, who heads the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The committee was appointed by Acting Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Weerasooriya.
Other members of the committee include Deputy Inspector General of Police P. Ampavila, Director of the CID SSP I. Muthumala, and Director of the Police Terrorism Investigation Division SSP Kamal Perera.
In addition to the main committee, five sub-committees comprising Superintendents of Police, and ASPs have been appointed to study the report.
The police stated that the Presidential Commission report on the Easter Sunday attacks, handed over to the CID, exceeds 67,400 pages. The report is divided into five volumes and includes 87 books.
The Acting Inspector General of Police has instructed that the report be studied thoroughly and any new findings that have not yet led to legal action should be pursued based on the Attorney General's advice.
Furthermore, the Acting Inspector General has directed senior officers to submit separate reports on any new findings.
The report was handed over to the CID last Sunday following an order from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
