COLOMBO (News 1st): Prisons Department says that four inmates, including a former LTTE detainee have passed their G.C.E. Ordinary level examinations with distinction.
The results of the 2020 G.C.E. Ordinary level examination were released yesterday (23) night.
Prisons Spokesperson said that the examination was held for inmates of the Watareka and the Magazine prisons at Sunitha school with the collaboration of the Department of Prisons and Department of Examinations.
The Prisons Spokesperson emphasizing that one of the main functions of the Department of Prisons is to rehabilitate inmates who are imprisoned on various charges and to reintegrate them into society as good citizens, said that the inmates of the prisons are granted opportunities to hone their abilities, including academic, vocational training, religious, educational and social activities and socializing.
He added that the Department of Prisons has also enabled inmates to pass postgraduate degrees during several previous cases as well.
