COLOMBO (News 1st); An inmate at Boossa Prison has died under suspicious circumstances, prompting an official investigation. The inquiry, initiated under the directives of Minister Harshana Nanayakkara, aims to uncover the details surrounding the incident.
The deceased, who was incarcerated on charges of possessing heroin, succumbed to injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon and a severe blow to the back of the neck.
This was confirmed by Dr. D. D. Samaraweera, the Judicial Medical Officer at Karapitiya Hospital, following a post-mortem examination.
The inmate's death, which occurred Saturday (5), has raised serious concerns about the safety and security within the prison.
An internal investigation, led by an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons, is currently underway to determine the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident.
