Welikada Police OIC Faces Removal Over Custodial Death

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Acting Inspector General of Police has recommended the removal of the Welikada Police Chief (OIC) to the National Police Commission.

This recommendation comes in the wake of an incident involving the death of a suspect who was under police custody and later hospitalized.

The move aims to ensure a fair and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspect's death.

In addition to this, two other officers have been suspended from duty. The Police Media Division confirmed that a police sergeant and a constable are among those suspended.

Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department under the directives of the Acting IGP.
