COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan Government has decided to provide the Rs. 10,000/- worth relief package to low income families.

The Rs. 10,000/- relief package was originally prepared for families that are undergoing quarantine.

The Presidential Task Force For Economic Revival and Poverty Alleviation noted in a letter that the decision was made at the Cabinet Meeting on the 23rd of August 2021.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has expressed his dismay over this decision, citing that the relief package is designated for a selected group, rather than those who actually need it.

He said that most countries that have gone into lockdown are providing measures to ensure the survival of the people, however, the Sri Lankan government is taking away the minimum provision as well.
