COLOMBO (News 1st): All pregnant mothers should get vaccinated as soon as possible, the Health Promotion Bureau urges.
None of the pregnant mothers who died due to COVID-19 were vaccinated, Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Dr. Pradeep de Silva revealed during a press conference held on Wednesday (11),
Moreover, it was revealed that currently, the Castle Street Hospital for Women has about 50 pregnant mothers who were infected with COVId-19 while De Soyza Maternity hospital has about 70.
A majority of the pregnant women have not obtained any vaccine, while those who obtained at least one dose of the vaccine have not reported any clinical complications, he explained.
"We urge all pregnant mothers to take the vaccine as there are no side effects. There are myths circulating about infertility and incompatibility with other vaccines, however, no such cases have been so far reported." HPBS officials further stated.
Pregnant mothers under 30 were also urged to obtain the vaccine by the Health Promotion Bureau.
"All pregnant mothers over 18 years of age can obtain the vaccine. If there are any doubts, please meet a specialist doctor and resolve your issues about getting vaccinated" the officials added.
Dr. Chithramalee De Silva, the Director of the Family Health Bureau told reported that around 700 pregnant mothers have tested positive for COVID-19 and they are being treated for the virus.
She noted that 19 pregnant mothers had fallen victim to the virus.
