No decision to halt luxury item imports : Attygalle

COLOMBO (News1st): Finance secretary S.R. Attygalle says that no decision has been made on restricting the import of luxury items. Media reports showed that the government is considering moves to restrict imports of mobile phones, televisions, freezers, electrical appliances and perfumes. These reports suggest that the move is expected to strengthen foreign reserves, before being relaxed when the situation improves gradually. The finance secretary noted that a decision will be taken following discussions with the ministerial cabinet.
