05 arrested for attending farmers protest & hunt on for 05 more; Cops say they breached quarantine law

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police arrested 05 people for protesting in Boralanda, Bandarawela while violating the quarantine rules and regulations.

Sri Lanka Police said the suspects were produced to the Welimada Court and were enlarged on a Rs. 100,000/- personal bail, for each suspect.

Sri Lanka Police had also made a request to arrest several more suspects, and the court had noted that an order was not necessary to arrest them.

Accordingly, police launched an investigations to arrest 05 more suspects including Ex-Uva Provincial Council member of the JVP Samantha Vidyaratne and National Organizer of the All Ceylon Farmers Federation Namal Karunaratne.

The protest had taken place on the 01st of July 2021 in Boralanda.
